In a move that pairs financial support with a clear warning, the United States has vowed $2 billion for United Nations emergency relief programmes. However, this funding was accompanied by a direct warning for the international body: it must "evolve or perish."

A Significant Announcement During Broader Funding Cuts

This commitment was made during a time of major reductions in US support of global aid. Additional reductions are expected from other major contributors including European nations. The official, President Trump's Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, delivered the announcement together with the United Nations' top humanitarian official.
